Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, NDC candidate for Governor of Delta State

Chris Iyovwaye, governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Delta State, has mourned the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Level 16 Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.

Adeda reportedly died after an incident at the Delta State Secretariat in Asaba.

In a statement on Saturday, Iyovwaye described Adeda as a civil servant, husband, father, brother and Deltan who went to work in service of the state.

He extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues and the wider civil service community.

Iyovwaye called for a “full, transparent and impartial investigation” into the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.

He said the incident reportedly occurred inside the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education and the Examinations Division before Adeda was taken to Asaba Specialist Hospital, where he later died.

The NDC candidate noted that the Delta State Police Command had confirmed its investigation into the matter, adding that one suspect, Lucky Adoh, had been arrested.

According to him, police were also making efforts to apprehend two other commissioner’s aides, Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine, who were named in connection with the allegations.

He said the police had indicated that available video footage, eyewitness accounts and medical records would form part of the investigation.
