NDC’s Iyovwaye calls for ‘reset’ of Delta State on Independence Day
Governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Delta State, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, has called for a “reset” of the state, citing poverty, unemployment, insecurity, poor infrastructure and what he described as failed leadership.
Iyovwaye made the call in his Independence Day address to Deltans on Thursday, saying the state needed to move away from dependence on federal allocations and build an economy driven by industrialisation, agriculture and investment.
He said, “It is time to RESET Delta State.”
According to him, the independence celebrated by Nigerians would have little meaning for citizens unable to meet basic needs.
“A man who cannot feed his family is not independent. A young graduate who has no job after four years in university is not independent. A mother who cannot take her child to hospital because there is no hospital is not independent,” he said.
Iyovwaye also questioned the development achieved in Delta State despite its oil and gas resources, saying the state had the natural resources and human capital needed to become economically productive.
