More Than 1,000 APC Members Reportedly Join NDC in Delta North

More than 1,000 people described by Independent as former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former party leaders, reportedly joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Delta North.

The development was announced during a gathering in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, involving members of the Delta Coalition for Equity and other political stakeholders.

According to the report, the group came from the nine local government areas that make up Delta North Senatorial District.

The defectors were led by former Delta Coalition for Equity convener Chief Alex Ikpeazu. Speaking at the event, Ikpeazu said the group had decided to leave the APC and support the NDC and its candidates ahead of the 2027 presidential, governorship and other elections.

NDC state chairman Dr Oyidobo Richmond received the new members and encouraged them to return to their wards and local government areas to participate in the party’s grassroots organisation.

Chris Iyovwaye was also present at the gathering and welcomed the new members into the party.

In his remarks, Iyovwaye urged those joining the NDC to work within the party structure and respect the party’s constitution. He described the development as a “movement” rather than simply a decamping exercise.

He also called on members to pursue their interests through consultation with the party leadership.
