Iyovwaye Responds to Urhobo Traditional Rulers’ Endorsement
Chris Iyovwaye has responded to the reported decision by the Ukoko R’Ivie R’Urhobo, a forum of Urhobo traditional rulers, to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 Delta State governorship election.
In a statement issued in September, Iyovwaye acknowledged the right of traditional rulers to express their views while emphasising what he described as the constitutional role of voters in determining the governor of the state.
The NDC candidate said he intended to formally request an audience with the traditional rulers to present his own vision for Delta State.
He explained that he believed traditional institutions should have the opportunity to hear directly from candidates seeking to lead the state, while residents should also have the opportunity to examine the different positions and proposals presented by candidates.
Iyovwaye framed his response around four principles that he said should guide the election: performance, development, accountability and the role of the electorate.
He also stated that he respected the traditional rulers and Governor Oborevwori’s right to contest the election.
The statement concluded with Iyovwaye reaffirming his intention to continue participating in the election process and campaigning peacefully.
