2027: Iyovwaye unveils Delta campaign HQs, vows statewide consultations

The 2027 governorship campaign of Deacon Chris Iyovwaye of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has entered a new phase with the inauguration of the party’s Delta State Campaign Headquarters in Asaba.

The headquarters was inaugurated on Thursday at an event attended by NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, Delta Central Senatorial candidate Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Delta North Senatorial candidate Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Delta South Senatorial candidate Chief Adowei Binaebi, party leaders, stakeholders and supporters.

Speaking at the event, Iyovwaye said the headquarters would serve as the operational centre for the campaign’s statewide consultations, policy development and grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said his campaign would focus on governance aimed at improving the welfare, security and economic prospects of residents.

“If you have governance where there is no value addition to the life and welfare of the people, it cannot be governance,” Iyovwaye said.

“If you look at all the parameters that make for quality living — security, healthcare, transportation and housing — those are the critical areas we want to address so that the quality of life of every Deltan is enhanced.”

Responding to questions about endorsements of the incumbent administration by some traditional rulers and elite groups, Iyovwaye said such endorsements could not determine the choice of voters.

“For us, it is the people that will speak in 2027,” he said. “One constant denominator in our  political history is that elite endorsements do not guarantee electoral victory. Traditional rulers have just one vote themselves. The people of Delta State will decide their own future at the ballot box.”

“We are also going to stand to protect your vote,” he said, adding that the party was targeting the three senatorial seats in the state and a majority of the House of Representatives seats in the 2027 election.

Obi, who expressed support for the Delta campaign, called for competent and accountable leadership capable of moving Nigeria from consumption to production.

He said an NDC administration would prioritise transparency in the management of public resources and enable citizens to track government expenditure.
